Rapper/producer Pharrell's Star Trak Entertainment and Interscope Records held a showcase at New York's Marquee nightclub for newly-signed rapper/singer Teyana Taylor, who performed tracks from her upcoming album, "A Planet Called Harlem," due May 20. The first single, the Jazze Pha-produced "Google Me," is currently No. 7 on the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart.
After a video introduction from Pharrell, 17-year-old Taylor -- sporting a black and hot pink cut-off top, a sparkly black puffer jacket, sagging black jeans, Nike sneakers and her staple curly hair -- took the stage with a set of male and female dancers. The Harlem-native performed songs like the siren-laden "Swagg," ("16, already push the range rover," she rhymes), the guitar-heavy lust song "Really Got It Bad," "Young Girl," produced by The Clutch and the cocky "Traffic Stop," in which she raps, "I spent a couple of mils, that's ok cause Teyana got a deal."
Taylor, who thanked her label, family, management and DJs at the end of her performance, made her small screen debut on MTV's "Sweet 16" show last year, in which she entered her skater-themed party dressed as a life-sized Barbie doll. She's worked with the likes of Jay-Z, Beyonce and Omarion.
