February 15, 2008

By Mitchell Peters, L.A.

The Viper Room, which sits on Los Angeles' Sunset Strip, has been sold to Pink Taco Restaurants founder Harry Morton, whose father Peter Morton founded the Hard Rock Cafes and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Only minor cosmetic changes will be made the 250-capacity Los Angeles venue, and its new owner plans to expand the Viper Room brand into locations in Las Vegas, Miami, Portland, Seattle, New York, London and Tokyo.

"I'm looking forward to expanding the brand worldwide, while sticking by the core beliefs I maintain at all my companies: staying true to brand, integrity and identity," Morton said in a statement.

Music industry veteran Arich Berghammer, who previously served as national chief of staff and national senior director of operations at House of Blues, is president of Morton's companies. Berghammer was also GM of the House of Blues in West Hollywood, Calif.
