EMI Music U.K. has joined forces with the British arm of online-payment service provider Click and Buy to launch a DRM-free, download-only compilation album designed to promote the major's up-and-coming acts.

The 10-track "Fresh Sounds 2007" aims to encourage young (12 to 18-year-old) music buyers to discover emerging EMI acts. Those featured include U.S. rapper MIMS, funk trio Unklejam, and Siobhan Donaghy, former member of all-girl group Sugababes.

Click and Buy enables young people, especially those without their own credit cards, to make cash purchases online. EMI's use of the Click and Buy system is facilitated by emusu.com, a music e-commerce platform supplied by U.K.-based DA Recordings.

"To reach the targeted audience, the FreshSounds2007.com Web site also has links on MySpace and [virtual world Web site] Habbo Hotel," explains EMI Music U.K. head of digital sales Graeme Rogan. "Click and Buy is similar to Paypal for a younger audience; so parents can charge up [an account] and their kids can go and use it online."
