EMI Inks New DRM-Free Deal

June 13, 2007

By Antony Bruno, Denver

The EMI DRM-free train continues to roll, with PassAlong Networks becoming the latest digital music service to license the premium download offer.

The deal enables all services using PassAlong's technology to offer the full EMI catalog at a higher bitrate for a higher price, same as EMI's deals with both iTunes and Amazon. PassAlong-powered services include Trans World Entertainment's f.y.e online music store and Proctor & Gambles Julie's Jukebox.

PassAlong last year began selling tracks sans DRM from its service, but continues to sell music with DRM from other major labels.

The service allows users to earn redeemable points when others buy music they recommend through the service.
