By Mitchell Peters, L.A.

New York's Madison Square Garden and banking company WaMu (formerly Washington Mutual) have entered into a multi-year naming rights deal for the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The arena's 5,600-seat theater will now be called the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden, effective immediately. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

This is the first naming rights deal that MSG has inked with a company for any of its facilities, and a second for WaMu. The Seattle-based banking company has its moniker attached to Seattle's approximately 7,000-seat WaMu Theater. A WaMu spokesperson declined to comment if the company has plans to ink similar deals with other venues.

As part of the MSG deal, WaMu will receive branded signage throughout the theater and externally on the Garden, and will install 11 ATMs between the two venues. In addition, the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden moniker will be included in all marketing/promotional materials for events held at the venue through the duration of the agreement.

As previously reported, the newest production at the MSG theater will be Cirque Du Soleil's holiday-themed Wintuk, which runs from November-January.
