May 16, 2007

By Antony Bruno, Denver

In addition to its just-announced partnership with Amazon.com, EMI Music Group has struck additional DRM-free licensing deals with several European digital music services.

The retailers include VirginMega in France, and several Scandinavian services, including Telenor, Musicbrigade, Inprodicon Basepoint Media, Aspiro and Paragallo.
All the deals closely resemble that of EMI’s partnership with Apple iTunes, in that it is making its entire catalog music available both DRM-free and in a higher sound quality format.

Pricing for the European deals was not disclosed, but with iTunes the higher-quality tracks will sell at a premium over the lower-quality tracks with DRM.
