Epic Records to Name Tricky Stewart Head of A&R
November 29, 2011   |    By Gail Mitchell and Ed Christman

Epic Records is expected to name Tricky Stewart head of A&R and is nearing a deal to name ex-LaFace Records executive Mark Shimmel to a senior executive post at the Sony Music label, according to sources familiar with the situation.

In another Sony Music appointment, former Interscope Records senior VP of A&R Shawn Holiday has been named both senior VP of A&R at RCA, covering the West Coast, and senior VP at Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Shimmel was COO of Epic chairman L.A. Reid's LaFace Records, a joint venture between Reid, Babyface Edmonds and Arista Records. After Arista parent BMG bought out the other 50% of LaFace in 2000, Reid became Arista president/CEO, while Shimmel was named senior VP of artist relations, rising to senior VP of marketing and artist relations in 2002.

After Reid and Shimmel were ousted from Arista in 2004, Shimmel became an independent music consultant, working with such clients as the Turner Networks, the Kennedy Center Honors and Corona Beer.
