Backbeat: Secretly Canadian Hosts 6th Annual Label Distribution Summit
Last weekend, Secretly Canadian hosted its 6th annual Label Distribution Summit, inviting representatives from labels distributed by SC -- Jagjaguwar, Dead Oceans, Sacred Bones and Hometapes among them -- as well as distributors (iTunes, Record Store Day and independent shops like Grimey's and Landlocked Music). Among the topics discussed in the roundtable conversations were the benefits and drawbacks of distribution through chain stores and Spotify.

To conclude the two-day summit, attendees trekked south to Monroe Lake, where label folk Instagrammed their escapades, which involved an abundance of floaties and PBRs. As Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar/Dead Oceans co-founder Darius Van Arman put it (commenting on one of said Instagram photos), "Amazing summit. Also, it was the first summit ever no one died or went missing." To that, Eric Deines responded, "I actually died twice."
