Spotify has surpassed 2.5 million subscribers worldwide, the company announced in a blog post Wednesday. It has gained 500,000 subscribers since September and 1 million subscribers since June.
Here's a timeline of Spotify's subscriber milestones:
-- September 2011: 2 million subscribers
-- June 2011: 1.5 million subscribers
-- March 2011: 1 million subscribers
-- July 2010: 500,000 subscribers
Spotify has obviously picked up strong momentum since its launch in October 2008. It took over a year and a half to get its first 500,000 subscribers but just two months to get its most recent 500,000 subscribers. The June 2011 launch in the U.S. has obviously helped.
The music service, which offers both free and premium levels of service, is now available in 12 countries. Last week the service launched in Austria, Switzerland and Belgium.
