Sony Latin Music artist Beatriz Luengo performed her first showcase in Los Angeles during a label presentation to introduce the Spanish singer to U.S. media and members of the industry.

The singer/songwriter performed a handful of songs at the Sony Music Theater at the label's main offices on Monday in support of her upcoming album Bela y Sus Moskitas Muertas, scheduled for release on Sept. 20. The album features Ziggy Marley.

Luengo opened her set with "Platos Rotos," a blues-inspired song about heartache.

"This is the most important album of my career," said Luengo, 26, after she performed. "Now with Sony I'll be able to bring my music to a wider audience."

Luengo has released three albums previously and has been performing since she was a child she performed for two years at a circus when she was 9-years-old.

"The circus taught me to entertain crowds," Luengo said. "I would dance and sing."

At 12, the Madrid-born songstress signed with Polygram in her native country. By 18 she moved to Universal Music Spain and most recently made the transition to the U.S. via Sony Music Latin.

"She's influenced by reggae, a '60s Latin sound and fuses it all with hip-hop," says Nir Seroussi, Sony Latin's VP of A&R and marketing. "Lyrically, she's also very honest."

Even during her brief set, Luengo wasted no time and quickly engaged her audience by explaining how each of her songs came to be. She also performed "Como Tú No Hay 2," which on YouTube has generated more than 1.6 million views in addition to climbing Billboard's Latin Pop Songs chart, rising 25-21 this week.

"She's a storyteller," says Yvette Medina, label manager with Sony Latin. "Every one of her songs has a strong point of view and she takes you on a journey."
