By By Katy Bachman, Mediaweek

CBS Radio announced a new strategy Friday (Oct. 30) that will extend four of its iconic radio brands beyond their local markets. Taking advantage of HD Radio technology, the four stations WFAN-AM Sportsradio in New York, World Famous KROQ-FM in Los Angeles, Hot Adult Contemporary KSCF-FM in San Diego, and WBZ-FM The Sports Hub in Boston, will air on the HD side channels of CBS stations in other select markets.

WFAN will be available on the HD side channels in three Florida cities, WOCL-FM in Orlando, WLLD-FM in Tampa, and WEAT-FM in West Palm Beach. KROQ will air over HD side channels on KSCF-FM in San Diego. KSCF-FM in turn air on a side channel of KAMP-FM in Los Angeles. Early next month, WBZ-FM The Sports Hub will be available on the HD 3 channel of WTIC-FM in Hartford.

3Digital radio has afforded the industry a way to expand its audience and increase brand awareness, while giving listeners unmatched sound quality,2 said Chris Oliviero, vp of programming for CBS Radio. 3We1re thrilled to expose our best in class stations to like minded audiences in cities across the country.

In the coming months, CBS Radio plans to extend other local radio brands to listeners outside their home broadcast markets.
