Jencarlos' ?Buscame? Debuts High On Latin Chart

November 19, 2009

By By Ayala Ben-Yehuda, L.A.

In what may be the highest-ever first-week position on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart from a debut act with independent distribution, Jencarlos' "B?scame" debuts this week at No. 2.

"B?scame," on Bullseye Music and distributed by Select-O-Hits, outsold new releases by tropical stars Victor Manuelle and Olga Ta?on to enter in the second spot behind Alejandro Sanz' "Paraiso Express." The set from Jencarlos, the star of Telemundo's hit soap "Mas Sabe el Diablo," sold about 8,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Sales of "B?scame" were supported by the actor/singer's appearance on Telemundo talk shows, a primetime TV campaign on the network, as well as the use of Jencarlos' single "Amor Qu?date" as the opening theme of his telenovela for a month before the album's release. The song is No. 22 on Billboard's Latin pop airplay chart this week.

Of Jencarlos' first-week sales, 62% came from Puerto Rico, where he did a series of in-stores last week.

"B?scame" is produced by Rudy Perez, a partner in Bullseye Music along with music industry veterans Marco Bissi and Rick Stevens.
