Massive Attack, Muse Confirmed For Fuji Rock Fest

March 08, 2010

By By Rob Schwartz, Tokyo

Japan's leading one-location music event, Fuji Rock Festival, has announced some of the main headliners for its 14th edition, to be held July 30 to Aug. 1.

The lead acts announced so far include Massive Attack, Muse, Ian Brown, Air, Vampire Weekend, Them Crooked Vultures and Ocean Colour Scene.

The fest in Niigata prefecture is run by Smash Corporation and is the father of summer rock festivals in Japan, having started in 1997. Attendance regularly surpasses 100,000 for the three-day event and the main stage, the Green Stage, can fit more than 30,000 spectators, standing and seated on a grassy slope.

Other acts announced were Belle and Sebastian, Broken Social Scene, John Butler Trio and Flogging Molly. Maintaining the fest's longstanding dance/electronic component, it has also booked Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem.

More acts are expected to be announced in the coming days.

The first event was held near Mount Fuji but moved to Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata in 1999.
