Exclusive: Kidz Bop Taps Kingston

July 03, 2008

By By Laura Leebove, N.Y.

For the first time, an edition of the best-selling children's music series Kidz Bop will feature an established artist in the project's marketing efforts, Billboard can exclusively reveal.

Rapper-reggae star Sean Kingston will be featured in TV commercials for "Kidz Bop 14," which will be released on July 29 by Razor & Tie. Kingston appears on the record with the Kidz Bop kids - also a first for an established artist - on a new version of his single "Take You There." He'll appear in the song's music video as well.

Four of Kingston's singles have hit Billboard's Hot 100, including "Beautiful Girls," which spent three weeks at No. 1 last year.

"Kidz Bop 14," like the rest in the series, features popular songs sung by kids for kids. Since its launch seven years ago, the Kidz Bop franchise has sold 10.5 million CDs.
