Sony BMG U.K. Names Curran COO

April 28, 2008

By By Lars Brandle, London

Music publishing veteran Paul Curran has been appointed COO of Sony BMG Music Entertainment U.K. and Ireland, with effect from May 1.

In his new role, Curran will report to the music major's U.K. chairman and CEO Ged Doherty.

Until now, Curran had served as executive director of Eel Pie Publishing, the publishing company of the Who guitarist Pete Townsend. He joined Eel Pie in 2007, after stepping down from BMG Music in the U.K., where he was managing director. In total, Curran spent 20 years of his career with BMG's publishing arm.

"The record business can no longer rely on one primary source of income but must license as many different revenue streams as its rights will allow," comments Doherty in a statement. "Paul's music publishing background will be invaluable as we continue our journey towards becoming a truly 21st century music entertainment company."
