MTV To Overhaul MHD Channel

August 12, 2008

By By Chris M. Walsh, N.Y.

MTV Networks' high-definition music channel MHD is getting an overhaul. The channel will be re-named Palladia, and will offer a fresh slate of music programming, beginning Sept. 1.

"It's a bigger, more distinct name for a channel that has grown in size as well as satisfaction among music HD fans," said VH1 executive VP/GM Tom Calderone, who also oversees Palladia.

"We're also reinforcing that the channel is the home for an increasingly broad range of musical styles and artists in high-def performances that can't be seen anywhere else."

As part of the new programming effort, the channel will premiere a different concert every Saturday and will kick off the first week of September with "Outdoor Music Week." The roster of outdoor music concerts includes Madonna, Usher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Jay-Z, Amy Winehouse and Kanye West, among others.
