'Glee' Makes Impact On U.K. Chart

January 18, 2010

By By Andre Paine, London

As well triumphing at the Golden Globes, "Glee" has scored five entries on the new U.K. top 75 singles chart.

The music comedy achieved big ratings when it debuted on E4 in the U.K. on Jan. 11. Up to 1.3 million watched the first episode and Channel 4 said it was the biggest audience for the digital-only channel since an episode of "Lost" in 2005.

"Glee" is also repeated on terrestrial service Channel 4 on Sunday afternoons.

The E4 screening helped to send the Glee Cast's version of "Don't Stop Believin'" (Columbia) from No. 99 to No. 5 on the Jan. 17 U.K. singles chart, on sales of 39,000 according to the Official Charts Company. Journey's original version, a presence on the chart thanks to its appearance on "The X Factor" last year, is at No. 6.

The Glee Cast is also at No. 43 with "Take A Bow," No. 49 with "Gold Digger," No. 62 with "Rehab" and No. 73 with "On My Own." It has further appearances in the Top 200 with "Push It" at No. 115 and "Can't Fight This Feeling" at No. 117.
