Sony BMG In DRM-Free Deal With Dada

May 13, 2008

By By Antony Bruno, Denver

Sony BMG is providing DRM-free full song downloads to Dada Entertainment, a mobile entertainment joint venture between the label and Dada USA. At this time, only Sony BMG's catalog is available via the service, but it hopes to add content from other labels soon.

Dada currently is available to subscribers of AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Alltel, Virgin Mobile USA, and others US operators.

At this point, the full-song downloads are not available over-the-air (OTA). Buyers can download the MP3s to their computer via Dada's online store, and then transfer them to any music-enabled mobile phones. The company hopes to add OTA capability in the coming months, which would require some kind of partnership with a participating wireless operator.

Dada customers sign up for the service for $10 a month, and get 15 "tokens" are then redeemed for mobile content like ringtones, wallpaper images, games or now full-song downloads.
