Jane's Addiction has canceled its six-date Australian tour, blaming a "mysterious infection" to drummer Stephen Perkins' elbow.

Following the European leg of their world tour, Perkins experienced pain and swelling in the elbow and was admitted into Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Hospital for treatment. Doctors expect Perkins to make a recovery over the coming weeks.

The reunited alternative rockers were due to headline this weekend's July 25-26 Splendour In the Grass festival in Byron Bay, northern New South Wales. Festival co-organizers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco are offering refunds for disappointed ticket holders. Jane's festival slot has been filled by popular Aussie rock trio the Living End.

In a post on the band's Web site, Perry Farrell says, "I know how excited we were to come play in Australia, and how long the fans there have waited for this. I want everyone Down Under to know that we will come back as soon as we can."

The Australian itinerary was quickly yanked from Jane's official Web site when the news broke late Thursday. However, the band's scheduled Lollapalooza show on Aug. 7 is still listed.
