iLike Unveils Music Syndication Platform

September 17, 2008

By By Antony Bruno, Denver

Social music discovery service iLike, with partner Rhapsody, introduced a new music syndication platform that lets Web developers add full-song streaming and other functions to their services.

Essentially a widget, the platform enables users to add features like interactive playlists and dedicated songs to products without requiring users to establish an iLike account.

For instance, partner Evite uses the technology to let guests invited to a party build a collaborative playlist of music they'd like to hear, as well as stream the songs from the invite page. Other partners include Flixter, Slide, Google, TypePad and more.

The announcement comes on the heels' of iLike's partnership with Rhapsody, which provides the full-song streaming technology and licensing. Non-subscribers can play up to 25 songs a month collectively on all iLike partners using the platform, while subscribers will get unlimited plays.
