- President-elect Barack Obama selects a lawyer who formerly represented the Recording Industry Association of America in file sharing cases to be the third in command at the Justice Department. [CNET]

- Nine Inch Nails topped the bestselling MP3 album of 2008 list at Amazon.com, even though the music could be had for free. [Amazon]

- The Recording Academy and the Recording Artists' Coalition (RAC) have merged. RAC will become an "integral program of The Academy's "GRAMMY(r)s on the Hill' initiative, which advances the rights of music creators through advocacy, education and dialogue." [Grammy.com]
