Buma/Stemra, Nokia Sign Pan-European Deal

November 26, 2009

By By Andre Paine, London

The Netherlands' performing rights society Buma/Stemra has signed a pan-European licensing deal with Nokia, which will make the society's repertoire available on the mobile manufacturer's Comes With Music service.

Comes With Music is available in various territories and offers unlimited access to millions of DRM-enabled tracks, for a 12-month or 18-month period depending on the contract or pre-licensed handset. Downloaded tracks can be retained on the assigned handset and PC after any subscription period expires.

"We are pleased about this deal with Nokia. It enables us to guarantee our composers and lyricists a reasonable payment for the use of their music through the Nokia Comes With Music service regardless in which EU country they reside," said Cees Vervoord, CEO of Buma/Stemra, in a statement.
