German Publisher Bavaria Sonor Launches Label

December 03, 2009

German music publisher Bavaria Sonor has launched a record label specialising in film and TV soundtracks.

The first release on the Bavaria Sonor label will be a soundtrack album from the cult 1960s German TV science fiction series "Raumpatrouille Orion," due Jan. 29 next year.

The publisher is a division of the German film and TV production company Bavaria Film Group, based in Geiselgasteig, near Munich. Distribution is to be split between Munich-based BSC Music, Cologne-based Rough Trade and Zebralution in Duisburg. The label says a further 10 releases are planned for 2010.

"Recently, we realized that because of their international business policies the big record companies, apart from a few exceptions, did not serve this market segment properly," Bavaria Sonor's managing director Dr. Rolf Moser said in a statement. "A lot of the smaller labels do not have access to the TV and film industry or the experience to market such productions. We have therefore decided to close that gap.?

Bavaria Sonor is a successful European licensing agency, handling the neighbouring rights of Bavaria Film, as well as various children?s productions, comic characters and TV productions.
