MTV President To Step Down

February 07, 2008

By By Chris M. Walsh, N.Y.

MTV president Christina Norman has decided to exit the company at the end of the month, according to a MTV representative.

Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music and Logo Group, sent an internal memo to MTV staffers on Thursday letting them know of Norman's decision "to take the time to explore something new."

Norman, a 17 year veteran of the network, has helmed MTV since May 2005 and was responsible for the day-to-day leadership, strategy and management of MTV. Prior to MTV she was president of VH1 and was credited with re-energizing VH1's on-air design and overall creative direction amid a strong ratings run for the channel when she left in post in 2005.

There was no word on her replacement. Toffler will assume day-to-day responsibilities in the interim.
