Delta Airlines To Get Sponsored In-Flight Tunes

July 02, 2008

By By Kamau High, N.Y.

DMI Music & Media Networks, an in-store music provider, has pacted with Pace Communications, a custom publishing house, to provide sponsored in-flight music on all Delta Airlines flights.

Pace Communications already produces Delta's in-flight entertainment programming and publishes Sky Magazine, the in-flight magazine of Delta.

In addition to a database of 3,500 songs, the two companies will provide exclusive interviews with artists, DJs and celebrity guests for use on more than 28,000 flights a month. The content will be heard over 16 broadcast channels and 14 audio on demand channels. The initial line-up of artists and sponsors remained unclear at press time.

"Creating a path to consumer discovery of new artists and albums is more important than ever in today's music market," said Andy French, senior VP of media services and label relations for DMI Networks, in a statement. "In-flight programming has a proven track record of boosting album sales for a variety of artists."
