Infectious Partners With PIAS

March 17, 2009

By By Andre Paine, London

Infectious Records has signed a pan-European distribution deal with PIAS Entertainment Group.

PIAS will handle all physical and digital releases in the U.K. and Europe for Infectious, the London-based independent label re-launched by former Warner Bros. Records U.K. managing director Korda Marshall in February.

Australian alt-rock act the Temper Trap is the first signing to the label and releases its first single "Science Of Fear" on April 20, followed by a second single and an album in the summer. The band is playing five shows at SXSW between March 18 and 21.

Infectious will confirm more signings in the near future.

"PIAS handled all the distribution for our label's former incarnation when we were Mushroom-Infectious Records," said Marshall, label founder and managing director, in a statement.

"We had five great years together then, sold a lot of records and in the end it was an easy choice to hook back up with Pete Thompson, Kenny Gates and their team who have always done a great job for us. They are very transparent to work with, they know the European distribution market inside out and I'm delighted we are back in business together."

Peter Thompson, managing director of PIAS U.K. added, "We're absolutely delighted to be working with Korda again. Our paths cross at frequent intervals and they've always been productive and fun. This looks like it could be the best yet and certainly Korda's first signing, Temper Trap, are an amazing band with huge potential. Everyone at PIAS U.K. is extremely excited about this band and the re-emergence of Infectious as a modern record label"

Marshall left Warner Bros. Records U.K. in October last year. During his five years with the major, he signed artists including Gnarls Barkley, Foals, the Enemy, Pendulum and Seasick Steve.

He originally launched Infectious following his departure from RCA in 1993. The indie later merged with Australia's Mushroom Records and it was acquired by Warner Music Group in 2003.
