Universal Opens Movie Soundtrack MP3 Store

August 22, 2008

By By Andre Paine, London

Universal Music U.K. has launched a dedicated download service aimed at film fans and soundtrack connoisseurs.

Although www.themusicfrom.com has gone live with just 200 Universal titles, many of them are being made available digitally for the first time. Soundtracks on the store include "Mamma Mia!", "Sex In The City" and "Bladerunner".

The store has also marked its launch today (Aug. 22) with an exclusive six-track digital EP of music from director Shane Meadows' latest cinema release, "Somers Town".

"We wanted to create a world that gave immediate access to the music from people's favorite films," said Universal Music U.K. director of film and TV Marc Robinson. "At the same time it gives us a platform to work closely with the film makers to create great soundtracks, celebrate brilliant scores and have the facility to maximise on-line cross promotion between the film and music audiences on release."

All downloads on the store are sold in high-quality MP3 format and there are plans to expand with soundtracks from other labels and music from TV shows.
