EMI Music Group Adds Qtrax To List Of Partners

June 03, 2008

By By Antony Bruno, Denver

On the same day (June 3) that it announced a deal with ad-supported music service SpiralFrog, EMI Music Group added the controversial Qtrax to its list of new partners.

Like Spiralfrog, Qtrax is also an ad-supported music service, using more of a authorized P2P model. Under the deal, EMI will provide its catalog for unlimited streaming and downloading to Qtrax members for as long as they remain active on the service.

Qtrax originally launched its service at Midem, but quickly retracted once the major label deals it claimed to have secured turned out to be nonexistent. The company added Universal Music Group as its first major label deal last month.

EMI is the second major to join the roster.
