EMI Cuts Continue

February 22, 2007

By by Brian Garrity, N.Y.

EMI has laid off an undisclosed number of employees in its EMI Canada unit, sources familiar with the situation confirm.

The move is part of the label's North American restructuring efforts, which have already seen the merger of EMI's Capitol and Virgin imprints, as well as a reorganization of its independent distribution arm, Caroline.

The layoffs in Canada impacted label staff as well as manufacturing and distribution employees.

A first wave of notifications went out last week, additional pink slips were handed out today.
