Lala Deal Extends Believe?s International Presence

November 02, 2009

By By Richard Smirke, London

European digital distribution service Believe Digital has partnered with music website www.Lala.com to provide its repertoire to Google's recently unveiled music service.

The deal will also see Believe Digital provide its repertoire through Lala for Facebook's music gifting service. It covers the entire Believe Digital catalog.

Google's new music search capability went live in the United States last week (Billboard.biz, Oct. 28) and is designed to facilitate music discovery, streams and sales via several digital music services. MySpace Music and Lala provide streaming content.

Facebook's recent entry into the digital music space enables members to buy and send music tracks to their friends. Lala is the exclusive music vendor (Billboard.biz, Oct. 21).

Commenting on the deal, Denis Ladegaillerie, president and founder or Believe Digital, said in a statement. "It's great to see the largest players online, and I think particularly Google and Facebook, are beginning to understand the benefit of bringing music to their users."

"It's definitely good news for the increasing adoption of legal music services and for a company as innovative as Believe, it's important that our artists are represented fully through such mediums at the launch of these initiatives," he continued.

Paris-based Believe Digital was founded in 2005 and provides digital distribution across Europe and North America for its artists and label repertoire. It has worldwide distribution deals in place with iTunes, Amazon, Beatport, MSN, Nokia and Spotify and has offices in New York, London, Hamburg and Syracuse. Labels that it currently represents include Fargo, Yellow Productions and Osmose.
