Borders Eyes MP3 Download Service

January 16, 2008

By By Antony Bruno, Denver

Borders Group Inc. is eyeing an MP3 music download service. According to a Reuters report, the company plans to relaunch its Web site in the coming months after its alliance with Amazon.com, which has been running Borders' online commerce services to date, ends in Q1.

In addition to selling books via the new site, Borders is exploring options on an MP3 music service and is hoping to extend its "mix and burn" in-store music kiosk program into a more fully functional Web-based service, according to the report.
