Seattle folk-rock act Fleet Foxes has been nominated for three awards at the 2009 Mojo Honours List. The band is up for album of the year (for "Fleet Foxes," issued by Sub Pop in the U.S. and Bella Union in Europe), best live act and song of the year for "White Winter Hymnal."

U.K. indie-rock act Elbow and U.S. rock outfit Kings Of Leon each have two nominations for the U.K. monthly music magazine's awards, both for song of the year and album of the year. Elbow is recognized for the Nationwide Mercury Prize-winning album "The Seldom Seen Kid" (Fiction/Polydor) and the single "One Day Like This"; Kings Of Leon's nominations are for album "Only By The Night" (Hand Me Down/Sony Music Entertainment) and U.K. No. 1 single "Sex On Fire."

The other album nominees are P.J. Harvey and John Parish for "A Woman A Man Walked By" (Island/Universal) and Paul Weller for "22 Dreams" (Island/Universal). Weller - who won the outstanding contribution honor last year - is also nominated for best live act alongside Fleet Foxes, Leonard Cohen, Seasick Steve and Radiohead.

Franz Ferdinand and Animal Collective are the other song of the year contenders for, respectively, "Ulysees" (Domino) and "My Girls' (Domino). The breakthrough act award will be contested by Gallows, White Lies, Eli 'Paperboy' Reed & the True Loves, School Of Seven Bells and Glasvegas.

Now in its sixth year, the awards are voted for at the mojo4music Web site. The winners, along with the recipients of special awards decided by a judging panel, will be revealed at an awards ceremony in London on June 11.

Sixties British band the Pretty Things will receive the Mojo hero award, it was confirmed today (May 6). "They are a classic British band in every sense," said Mojo editor-in-chief Phil Alexander in a statement. "To my knowledge they've never won an award so this is long overdue and well deserved."

The band performed at a launch event for the awards today at HMV's flagship store on London's Oxford Street, along with Ian Broudie. Other acts due to perform include School of Seven Bells and Kasabian.
