MTV?s McGrath, Atlantic?s Greenwald Among THR 'Power 100'

December 04, 2007

By By The Hollywood Reporter

More than 700 invited guests honored the most powerful women in the entertainment industry today at The Hollywood Reporter's 16th annual Women in Entertainment: Power 100 breakfast.

The event at the Beverly Hills Hotel coincided with the release of The Reporter's special issue, which honors and ranks the 100 most powerful women in the entertainment industry from film, TV, music and other areas.

Anne Sweeney, co-chairman of Disney Media Network and president of Disney-ABC Television Group, tops this year's Power 100 list.

Rounding out the top five, in order, are: Amy Pascal, chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group and co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment; Nancy Tellem, president of CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group; Stacey Snider, co-chairman and CEO of DreamWorks SKG; and Judy McGrath, chairman and CEO of MTV Networks.

John Travolta and Queen Latifah delivered keynote speeches at the breakfast, which were presented by Lifetime Networks in association with St. John Knits, while Jodie Foster received the fourth annual Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, presented to a woman who has been a pioneer or leader in her field.

Also honored were the first-ever winners of the Lifetime Movie Network Student Filmmaker Competition, de-signed to encourage and discover the next generation of female filmmakers.

"Hollywood is all about franchises, and Women in Entertainment is one of The Hollywood Reporter's most resonant, recurring features, one that allows us each year to reflect upon the achievements and the challenges facing women in this business," The Reporter editor Elizabeth Guider said. "This year's package of stories both celebrates the successes of the top tier of female players in town and points to areas where inroads still need to be built upon."

The Power 100 is chosen by a team of editors and reporters based on such criteria as their ability to greenlight content, their position within the company, the number of people who report to them and the amount of money they control. The complete list can be found at HollywoodReporter.com.

"Each of these women have overcome monumental market and internal mountains to achieve their ranking on our list," The Reporter publisher John Kilcullen said. "We salute their resolve. We are impressed with their tenacity, passion and relentless focus on results."

The issue also ranks the top 10 actresses by salary, with Reese Witherspoon moving up from her No. 2 position last year to take the top spot from Nicole Kidman. Another feature examines the dearth of women working behind the scenes in nonexecutive roles, particularly as directors.
