WOXY.com Off Air

March 23, 2010

By By Cortney Harding, N.Y.

WOXY.com, an online indie rock station based in Austin, TX, announced it was suspending operations this morning (March 23). "The current economic climate" was the reason provided for the shutdown.

WOXY started out as a terrestrial station in Oxford, OH; founded in 1983, it went by 97X and the tagline was "the future of rock & roll."

In 2004, it became one of the first commercial stations to make the transition to online-only broadcasting. The station moved from Ohio to Austin last year. It was owned by Lala from 2006 to 2009.
