Soulja Boy Releases iPhone Remix App Through Romplr

July 14, 2009

By By Antony Bruno, Denver

Adding to the trend of music remix applications for the iPhone is Moderati?s new Romplr service. The application allows participating artists to release certain tracks on the iPhone that fans can recreate into their own unique versions.

The first artist to do so is Soulja Boy Tell ?Em, who has made three songs??Crank That,? ?Hey You There,? and ?Turn My Swag On??available as a Romplr app. Along with the songs, Soulja Boy included seven other music samples as raw material fans can use to remix the tracks.

Once created, fans can use the Romplr system to record and share their creations through Facebook Connect, or via e-mail, or post to Romplr.com, which the company is hoping to turn into an interactive music community.

Moderati, a former ringtone aggregator, has a deal with Interscope Records to distribute additional artist Romplr apps in the future. Other Romplr apps include Romplr Dance, which contains three original dance tracks users can remix. The company also plans to offer the app beyond the iPhone to such devices as the BlackBerry, Android phones, Nokia and others.
