Sony Revives Deconstruction Label

July 08, 2009

By By Jen Wilson, London

Sony Music Entertainment U.K. has joined with Three Six Zero Group to re-launch dance imprint Deconstruction Records, eight years after it was closed.

A series of back catalog releases are planned ahead of signing new acts later in the year.

Headed by Sony's SVP of A&R, Mike Pickering -- one of Deconstruction's founding members -- and Three Six Zero's dance label management specialists AnD press, the joint venture label's first re-release will be Sasha's "Xpander." It is due via Beatport Aug. 3 in the U.K. and will be accompanied by new mixes.

A release of Lionrock's "Packet of Peace," including the Chemical Brothers remix, will follow in September.

Deconstruction Records was founded in 1987 and issued records by Kylie Minogue, M People, Way Out West, Sasha, Black Box and N Joi. It was also parent label for Concrete Records, which featured Lionrock, Death in Vegas and Dub Pistols on its roster.
