Rumblefish To Sell Music Through YouTube

June 25, 2010

By By Antony Bruno

Online music licensing service Rumblefish has struck a deal with Google to sell music in its catalog on YouTube. For $2, YouTube users can buy any song hosted by Rumblefish, and with it comes the rights to use that music in any video they subsequently create and upload to the service, so long as it?s for noncommercial use.

Now YouTube already has deals with most labels to let users add songs to their videos under a blanket license. But the Rumblefish catalog consists of music that is rarely found elsewhere?mostly indie tracks or music created specifically for use as sound effects or jingles. About 35,000 tracks are accessible.

The music will be sold via a new website called FriendlyMusic.com. The site launches June 29.

This is likely much different than the Google Music service rumored to be launching later this year.
