By By Leah Kauffman, N.Y.

The Alliance of Independent Media Stores announced today its plans for the first annual Record Store Day which will take place April 19.

Stores that are part of AIMS, CIMS, MMN, Newbury Comics, and the Value Music Group of Indie Stores will particpate in the event, which is designed to celebrate independent record shops and based on the previously held Free Comic Book Day.

The stores will set up special events and provide customers with goodie bags of new releases from the music, theater and gaming industries.

"The independent record stores in America represent what I value most - undiluted, uncensored, unfettered support for artistic expression," said Mike Dreese, owner of Newbury Comics of the event.
