Lady Gaga has overtaken Britney Spears on Twitter. Gaga had more than 5,746,000 followers today (Aug. 23) compared to 5,706,000 for Britney Spears.

Spears was the No. 1 celebrity on Twitter for three months after taking the top spot from Ashton Kutcher.

However, Internet research company famecount.com said that Justin Bieber - currently the No. 6 celebrity/public figure and No. 3 musician on Twitter with 4,706,000 followers - is the fastest growing star on the site. He is adding almost 800,000 new followers a month.
