Tokio Hotel Nixes Second Russian Show
March 11, 2010 - Global | Touring

By Vladimir Kozlov, Moscow

German rock-pop act Tokio Hotel has canceled another Russian date amid a dispute with the promoter.

Despite statements from the promoter and the band's management that they were doing all they could to make the March 10 show happen, the concert was canceled with just on several hours' notice, just as a St. Petersburg show was pulled at the 11th hour two days earlier.

Tokio Hotel's management and the promoter, Top Concert, are putting the blame on each other. "The local promoter has once again materially breached and violated the contract," the band's management said in a statement on its Web site on Wednesday (March 10). "Under these given circumstances, it is not possible for us to let the band play the show in Moscow."

"Tokio Hotel's Russian concerts were canceled by the initiative of the artist's management," Top Concert said in an emailed statement. "The Russian promoter has complied with all the conditions for the organization of the show, including its financial obligations before the artist and other involved parties."

Earlier on Wednesday, the band's members took part in an autograph session in Moscow, as scheduled but never showed up at the Olimpiisky sports palace, where thousands of fans were waiting.

When the cancellation of the show was announced mid-afternoon, about 150 fans filed complaints with Moscow's police on Wednesday, claiming damages from the promoter, the Russian news service LifeNews reported.

Some fans also picketed Top Concert's Moscow office, RIA Novosti wire service reported. Top Concert said in the statement it will do everything possible to reimburse those who bought tickets for the two canceled shows, but provided no timeframe.
