Radiohead has partnered with Google in an effort to have people remix the footage from its latest video, "House of Cards," from the album "In Rainbows."
The video, which was made with neither cameras nor lights, was put together by using two different forms of technology to capture 3D images: Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR.
This is not the first time Radiohead has asked its fans to create visuals for its videos. Aniboom, an animation-focused Web site, is currently picking the winner of a contest to animate a song from "In Rainbows."
In addition to a YouTube group dedicated to remixing the video there is also an iGoogle gadget, which allows users to put the different videos on their own pages as well as a making of video.
Since releasing "In Rainbows" as a free download last year, the band has experimented with a variety of promotional efforts that try to draw in users. Earlier this year Radiohead sold elements of their song "Nude" -- vocals, drums, guitars, etc. -- and held a contest to see who could put together the best remix.
While the band initially was initially criticized for charging fans for pieces of songs, ultimately 2,252 remixes were submitted. The winner, "Nude (Spor Remix)" received 38,568 votes, according to the remix site radioheadremix.com.
