Orchard Taps Caroline Exec Bull
August 18, 2008 - Digital and Mobile | Indies

By Ed Christman, N.Y.

The Orchard has hired Caroline distribution executive Michael Bull as GM, to oversee TVT Distribution. Bull will be based in New York and will report to the Brad Navin, executive VP and GM of the company. He starts Sept. 1.

The announcement comes on the heels of the news that the digital distributor is moving into physical distribution in order to sell physical releases from TVT Records, which it bought in a Chapter 11 auction. The Orchard is also pursuing independent label deals for distribution in all channels.

Bull joins the Orchard after a 16-year career with Caroline Distribution; he began there as an intern in 1990, culminating in his ascension to VP of label relations. In that position, he was responsible for scouting, signing, and helping to develop many of Caroline's label partners.

"TVT's robust and respected physical distribution operation enables The Orchard to ensure our independent label partners have a choice, and aren't inhibited from the digital distribution partner they prefer simply because they remain tethered to their physical distributor," said Scholl. "In Michael, we found the ideal leader - his skills, relationships and deep knowledge of physical retail will ensure our labels remain healthy across all formats in which their music is sold."

Bull grew up in and around Portland, Maine, and graduated from Wesleyan University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies with a concentration in minority studies.
