Beck, Black Crowes To Headline 2008 Street Scene
June 16, 2008 - Touring | Rock and Pop

By Mitchell Peters, L.A.

Beck and the Black Crowes have been tapped to headline the 24th annual Street Scene festival, which returns to its roots in downtown San Diego Sept. 19-20.

Approximately 40 acts will perform at the 2008 Street Scene, including Justice, Tegan and Sara, Spoon, TV on the Radio, Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9), Michael Franti and Spearhead, the National, Atmosphere, Cat Power, Hot Chip, the New Pornographers, X, Vampire Weekend, the Hives, Cold War Kids and Spiritualized, among others.

Tickets for the festival went on sale today (June 16) via street-scene.com, with a limited amount of two-day passes available for $75. Other confirmed acts are Ghostland Observatory, Man Man, Tokyo Police Club, Devotchka, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Del The Funky Homosapien, Eagles of Death Metal, Dengue Fever, MGMT, Sea Wolf and the Night Marchers.

Street Scene 2008 will feature four stages set up across San Diego's East Village, including Tailgate Park near Petco Park stadium. Performances are scheduled to run from 4 p.m. to midnight.

Street Scene founder Rob Hagey will produce the 2008 event with the help of Tim Mays, who owns and books San Diego club the Casbah. Many of the artists on this year's lineup cut their teeth in the San Diego market at the Casbah and other local concerts produced by Mays, according to organizers.

Last year's Street Scene was co-produced by Live Nation and Rob Hagey Productions. The event was originally set for Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego but was later moved to the Coors Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, Calif., for unspecified reasons.

The 2007 Street Scene lineup included the Killers, Muse, Panic at the Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Social Distortion, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Ozomatli, Fair To Midland, Air, Gym Class Heroes, Slightly Stoopid, Mute Math and Mika.
