Spiralfrog 'To Launch Summer 2007'
May 31, 2007 - Digital and Mobile | Global

By Mark Sutherland, Brussels

Spiralfrog, the much-touted ad-supported online music service, will finally launch in the United States by the end of summer 2007, chairman and founder Joe Mohen told the CISAC Copyright Summit today.

Speaking on the "New Revenue Streams... Where's the Money?" panel in Brussels, Mohen claimed the service will launch with over two million tracks in the U.S.

Its launch has already been delayed twice before, despite the company having several high profile deals in place with the likes of Universal Music Group and EMI Music Publishing.

The service is currently beta testing in Canada, where Mohen says the site features 500,000 tracks and a "who's who of advertisers."

Mohen was grilled repeatedly during the panel by moderator Paul Brindley about Spiralfrog's funding and the exit of former CEO Robin Kent in a December 2006 shake-up that left questions about the service's future viability.

But Mohen insists the service -- which offers free music in exchange for watching advertisements -- is on track to finally debut in the next few months.
