Universal Music Group International (UMGI) has appointed Andrew Kronfeld to the role of EVP, international marketing.
Kronfeld is currently GM of Universal Motown Records in New York. He will take up his new post -- which covers more than 50 countries outside North America -- in early 2010 and will report to Max Hole, EVP, UMGI. He will be based in New York and London.
"Andrew is a great executive and a great music man," said Hole in a statement. "No one is better qualified to continue and enhance our unbeatable track record of driving hits around the world and breaking new artists of all music genres."
"Andrew is the consummate marketing executive, he literally lives and breathes it. So when this great opportunity opened, we all thought that it was tailor-made for his skill set," added Sylvia Rhone, president of Universal Motown Records. "We are delighted that he has accepted the position and wish him the very best in this new role within our company."
Kronfeld will oversee the scheduling, promotion and marketing of all UMGI's releases worldwide. He will also be responsible for Cooperative Music, the independent labels network, and the rock label Spinefarm Records.
"I am truly grateful to Max for this opportunity, and certainly, to Mel Lewinter [chairman, Universal Motown Republic Group] and Sylvia for an incredible experience at Universal Motown," said Kronfeld in a statement. "Having worked closely with Max, I have experienced first hand the incredible level of quality and excellence that he and Lucian Grainge [Chairman and CEO, UMGI] have established. So when this unique opportunity arose, it became difficult to turn down."
Kronfeld started at Universal Music in 1999 when he joined UMGI as VP of international marketing, reporting to Max Hole. He moved to Universal Motown as SVP of international in 2001, and was subsequently appointed GM. He has worked with artists including Akon, Lil Wayne, Jack Johnson and Nelly.
Tony Harlow, previously SVP, international marketing for UMGI was appointed managing director, U.K. and Europe, for Universal merchandising company Bravado in November 2009.
