iTunes Offers First Ever Promo For Diego

For the first time ever, iTunes will feature English and Spanish versions of the same song as its free single of the week in its main store and iTunes Latino store.

Beginning tomorrow, Diego's "Losing Me" and "Perdido en Ti" will respectively be featured as the English and Spanish singles of the week. The free downloads are an early promotion for Diego's EMI Televisa album, "Indigo," which in the U.S. comes out digitally July 8 and physically July 22.

Diego is singer-songwriter and actor Diego Gonzalez, who played a character called Rocco on "Rebelde," the hit telenovela that spawned Mexican pop phenom RBD. Gonzalez has been the opening act on RBD's tours as well. "Losing Me"/"Perdido en Ti" was written by Gonzalez, Kara DioGuardi, Mitch Allan, and Guillermo Rosas. The latter is CEO of Roptus Inc., Diego's management and concert promotions company.

"Single of the week is all about discovery," says Roptus executive VP Richard Bull. "In the U.S., [Diego] hasn't been established yet in the Latin world. He has in Latin America. It gives you a great story to go to sponsors, brands, retail and radio, to say, 'this was tapped by a company like iTunes for this first-time promotion, and look how many downloads it's got.'"

The U.S. version of "Indigo" has three English tracks on it, but Bull says Diego has recorded English versions of most of his Spanish songs, with the idea of eventually releasing an English album.

"Indigo" debuted on Mexico's Amprofon sales charts at No. 32, and has hit No. 9 on retailer Mixup's charts.
