Flax To Exit EMI Music Publishing
March 08, 2007 - Publishing

By Susan Butler, N.Y.

Robert Flax, EMI Music Publishing vice chairman, will be leaving the publisher on March 31.

Flax was named vice chairman last August, a new position created for him by then co-CEOs Marty Bandier and Roger Faxon. Previously, he was president of U.S. operations, joining the publisher in 1992. Before then, he was a senior partner with Grubman, Indursky, Schindler, Goldstein & Flax in New York City (now Grubman, Indursky & Shire).

"Our mutual respect for each other enabled Roger Faxon and I to openly discuss my desire to pursue new directions," says Flax. "I'm quite proud of all I've been able to accomplish at EMI and I am sure that our paths will cross in the future."

Flax, a musician and songwriter, has penned five songs that made the Billboard charts in the 1970s: Bullet's "White Lies, Blue Eyes" and "Willpower Weak, Temptation Strong"; Barbara Mason's "Bed and Board"; Ian Lloyd & Stories' "Another Love"; and, when Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bob were on tour, P-Nut Gallery's "Do You Know What Time It Is." Flax also produced or co-produced some of the tracks.

"Bob has been instrumental over the years in helping to make EMI Music Publishing the great company it is today," says Faxon. "He has been an innovative leader and we are saddened to see him go. We know he will be successful in his future endeavors."
