Cohen Sings With Promoter At London Finale
November 19, 2008 - Global | Touring

By Andre Paine, London

Leonard Cohen wrapped up four major dates in London with a three-hour set at the Royal Albert Hall.

The veteran Canadian singer songwriter has played two 18,000-capacity dates at the O2 arena (Nov 13 and 14) and two more at the 5,200-capacity Royal Albert Hall (Nov 17 and 18)

Cohen invited tour producer and promoter Rob Hallett, AEG Live president of international touring, on stage as part of the group singalong for the finale of "Whither Thou Goest."

"I want to thank Rob Hallett of AEG for getting me back on the road," said Cohen. The 2008 tour was his first in 15 years.

The mammoth set also included "Bird On The Wire," "In My Secret Life," "Chelsea Hotel No. 2," "Tower Of Song," "The Partisan," "Suzanne," "Hallelujah" and "So Long Marianne."

Cohen will continue his fall tour at Birmingham NEC (Nov. 22), Paris Olympia (Nov. 24 to 26), Brighton Centre (Nov. 28) and Manchester Evening News Arena (Nov. 30). His remaining tour dates consist of 10 shows in New Zealand and Australia in January.

"I don't know when we'll meet again," commented Cohen as he left the stage.

Cohen's tour launched in Canada at the Fredericton Playhouse in New Brunswick on May 11. He also performed at the O2 arena in July and Glastonbury Festival.

The tour was organized in the wake of serious financial losses for Cohen. A court rule in March 2006 that $9.5 million was stolen by an ex-manager and it then emerged that Cohen was unlikely to recover the money.
