WMG Ups Jim Reid To European Synch Role
November 09, 2009 - Global | Publishing

By Andre Paine, London

Warner Music Group has promoted Jim Reid to a newly created role covering Europe-wide synchronization across the company's recorded music and publishing operations.

London-based Reid, previously head of film, television and advertising at Warner/Chappell Music U.K., takes on the job of SVP, Synchronization - Europe at Warner Music Group with immediate effect.

Reid will oversee pan-European synch licensing across Warner Music's recorded music repertoire and Warner/Chappell's publishing catalog. His duties will cover the development of new creative and commercial opportunities for both companies' rosters of artists and songwriters, driving a cohesive European synch strategy and accelerating the licensing of music where Warner Music and Warner/Chappell have joint copyrights.

"I'm delighted to be taking up this role, especially at a time when Warner Music Group is working with such a remarkable range of artists and emerging technology is generating a wealth of new licensable platforms," said Jim Reid in a statement. "We are leading the way in making licensing simpler, easier and more productive for artists and rights users alike. I'm looking forward to my ongoing work with the amazing team at Warner Chappell U.K. and building on my existing relationships with Warner Music Group's wider synch network."

Reid will report to Dave Johnson, chairman and CEO - Warner/Chappell Music, and John Reid, CEO - Europe, WMG, and will work closely with WMG's European affiliates. He will continue to lead Warner/Chappell U.K.'s synch business, reporting to managing director Richard Manners.

"As the use and consumption of music grows across the full spectrum of entertainment industries, the synch market is becoming increasingly sophisticated," said Johnson in a statement. "Whether it is the latest mobile game, Hollywood blockbuster, brand partnership or multi-media advertising campaign, synchronisation is a powerful way to reach new audiences and a growing area of our business. Jim's expertise and his strong relationships both with licensees and the creative community make him the perfect choice to represent WMG at a pan-European level."

John Reid added: "This appointment will further evolve our innovative, nimble approach to synch licensing and our best-in-class service for our acts and composers. Jim is passionate about the possibilities that synch creates for artists and the value that music holds for brands. He also has a deep understanding of how to put the two together in an intelligent, compelling way. This unique role will mean we will be able to offer pan-European clients rights to a massive array of music, and often provide a one-stop, creative solution."

Reid joined Warner/Chappell Music U.K. as head of film, television and advertising in 2006, securing synchs for artists including the Noisettes, the Ting Tings, Gabriella Cilmi and Emiliana Torrini.
