Shout! Factory Acquires HighTone Records Catalog
March 31, 2008

By Mitchell Peters, L.A.

Audio and video entertainment company Shout! Factory has acquired the catalog of independent label HighTone Records, which specializes in American roots music. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition of HighTone Records brings Shout! Factory additional country and Americana catalog titles from such artists as Buddy and Julie Miller, Tom Russell, Robert Cray, Dale Watson, Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, among others.

"Shout will endeavor to promote the much lauded Hightone brand by releasing favorites from the extensive catalog beginning in August and by maximizing sales through traditional and online marketing avenues," Shout! Factory CEO Richard Foos tells Billboard.biz.

HighTone Records was formed in Oakland, Calif., in 1983 by co-founders Larry Sloven and Bruce Bromberg. Since forming, the pair has released albums across many musical genres, including country, rockabilly, blues, gospel and western swing.

Shout! Factory, which is devoted to "producing, uncovering and revitalizing the very best of pop culture," already holds country and Americana CD/DVD catalog titles from Solomon Burke, Jessi Colter, John Prine and Cowboy Jack Clement, among others.
